Tura, September 8, 2014: A 19 year-old youth, who was caught by villagers near the Indo-Bangla border near Jaksongram in South Garo Hills on Saturday night and handed over to police, hanged himself in the police lock up Sunday morning.
The teenager, a suspected bike thief, was sharing the lock up with another cellmate. The youth identified as Senomen S Marak was a resident of Rongdok under Challang PS in West Khasi Hills district.
“He was brought to the Baghmara police station at about 12.30 am on Sunday by villagers of Jaksongram who found his movements suspicious. On questioning they found him to be a motorcycle thief and handed him over to us. A case of theft has been registered against him”, said a senior police official.
The police confirmed that the teenager was a bike thief . The bike handed over by villagers to the police was found to have been stolen from Williamnagar.
