Shillong, August 27, 2014: Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will address a mass gathering of coal mine owners, miners, those who are indirectly or directly associated with coal mining activities and other stakeholders, at Polo on August 29.
Billed as the largest gathering of people who are protesting against the NGT ban on coal mining, the public meet will be organized by Movement for Indigenous People’s Rights and Livelihood Meghalaya (MIPRLM)
The Vice President of MIPRLM Erwin Sutnga told reporters on Wednesday that during his meeting with Chief Minister, he has agreed to attend the public gathering at Polo.
Though the meeting of the stake holders was scheduled to be held at State Central Library, the venue has been changed since there will be large participation of people.
Sutgna further said while there is a need to have safe mining practices, these should be implemented such a way that the livelihood of the people are not affected.
