Imphal, September 4, 2014: After the UNC’s indefinite ban on all National projects and vehicular traffic on National highways and State highways came into effect from 6 am today, more than 400 vehicles including loaded trucks and passenger buses have been stranded.

Even before the bandh came into effect, bandh supporters were seen at Senapati town, Makhan, Tadubi, Maram and Mao.

Even as police were put on ROP duty at different points along Imphal-Dimapur highway, none of the vehicles could enter Mao Gate. As such, there is no report of any untoward incident so far.

Not a single vehicular movement has been witnessed along the National Highway 2 in Senapati today while around 400 vehicles including trucks carrying essential commodities and passengers have been stranded at Mao gate.

It is also reported that some vehicles were vandalised between Taphou Kuki and Senapati district headquarters today by volunteers of UNC.

Some of the passengers stranded beyond Mao Gate have started travelling up to their destinations on foot with their luggages on their heads.

On the other hand, a Tata Winger passenger carrier which was heading for Imphal from Dimapur this morning amidst the bandh met with an accident near the Assam Rifles checkpost at Hengbung.

At least 11 passengers were injured in the mishap. They were given first aid at the AR post before they proceeded towards Imphal.
