CCPur, September 13, 2014: A tense stalemate reportedly ensued last night over the arrest of one Seimang Kipgen by the Assam Rifles as the public of Tuibuong area accused the later of falsely implicating him and demanded his immediate release.

Seimang, sources said was arrested by the Assam Rifles for possessing a licensed .22 rifle but AR contended that it was not a licensed gun. As the news of the arrest spread, a huge number of people particularly womenfolk assembled in front of the AR camp at Tuibuong and demanded his immediate release resulting in a heated standoff till 11.30 pm.

The situation reportedly subsided only after the AR released Seimang around midnight as assured to representatives of KKL, KSO and women groups.

CDSU and several other organisations have today condemned the AR for what they said was inhuman act. It even accused the AR of coercing two girls who were present nearby and making them sign an arrest memo without their consent. They also accused the SP of ignoring the stand off saying it amounted to wilful negligence of duty as the incident could have posed serious threat to public tranquillity.
