Imphal, September 01 2014: Contending that aspirants seeking to pursue medical profession are kept in dark over whether Central Reservation Policy or State Reservation Policy will be implemented while selecting candidates under central pool quota for admission to various medical colleges, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has demanded both the Central and State Govt to make the matter crystal clear at the earliest.

Addressing a press meet in this regard at its head office located at Keishampat here today, Arambam Thoithoi, secretary general of DESAM, pointed out that the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India had already directed the State Government to implement Central Reservation Policy in selection of candidates under central pool quota but in contradiction, the State Government has urged the Centre to implement State Reservation Policy, thus putting medical aspirants in a state of confusion.

He stated that according to State Reservation Policy, there is 31 percent quota for ST, 2 percent for SC, 17 percent for OBC and 50 percent for unreserved while there is 7.5 percent quota for ST, 27 percent for OBC, 15 percent for SC and 50.5 percent for unreserved as per Central Reservation Policy.

Maintaining that third round of counseling session for candidates who cleared All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) is scheduled to be ended before Sep 10 but it is not clear which policy will be implemented this time, he lamented that careers of students who have cleared certain medical tests will be in danger if the matter is not resolved at the earliest.

A total of 20 MBBS and 2 BDS seats are granted under central pool quota to the State in the year 2013 but the number of seats to be allotted under the same quota for this year is not known till yet, he added.
