Haflong, August 31, 2014: Demanding immediate implementation of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed among the Centre, Assam Government and the two Dima Halam Daogah (DHD) groups on October 8, 2012 at North Block, New Delhi, the ex-DHD and ex-DHD (J) took part in a dharna, organised by the Halali Progressive Welfare Society, in front the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dima Hasao, here on Friday.
They were demanding implementation of the MoS in a time-bound manner, withdrawal of cases related to ex-DHD and ex-DHD (J), proper rehabilitation of all ex-DHD and ex-DHD (J) cadres, ex gratia for the families of killed cadres, formation of the Barman-Hojai Development Council as per Clause 2.8 of the MoS, immediate completion of the BG four-lane NH from Lumding to Silchar and regular salaries for employees of the NC Hills Autonomous Council.
The members of several NGOs, civil societies like Jadikhe Naisho Hosom, Dimasa Mothers’ Association, All Cachar-Karimganj-Hailakandi Students’ Association, etc., took part in the sit-in demonstration in support of the demands of the ex-DHD and ex-DHD (J).
Later, the agitators submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh through the Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao with copies to Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, VK Singh, Union DoNER Minister, Shambhu Singh, Joint Secretary (NE), AK Mishra, Joint Secretary (NE), Intelligence Bureau, Kulendra Daolagupu, chairman, MoS Implementation Committee, NC Hills Autonomous Council, Hamjanan Langthasa, president, BJP Dima Hasao district committee.
