Badarpur, September 30, 2014: With sorrow in their hearts, people from all over Badarpur, including Railway employees, representatives of various Railway unions, mediapersons and various cultural organisations bid adieu to the Barak Valley Express at Badarpur Railway Station on Monday.
After the train arrived at Badarpur Railway Station from Silchar, all the drivers and assistant drivers and the NF Railway employees’ unions of Badarpur branch welcomed it. They also decorated the train on the front side. Earlier, various cultural organisations and members of the Press singing We shall overcome moved throughout the station. Along with the farewell programme, they also extended their heartiest welcome to the broadgauge in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section.
The last journey of the Barak Valley Express on the metergauge track of the Lumding-Badarpur route ended on Monday morning, as the NF Railway is closing it for infrastructure and technical buildup for a broadgauge track conversion work from tomorrow. With this last journey, the British-constructed Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section meter gauge line has been consigned to the history books.
