Itanagar, October 8, 2014: Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has said that many important road projects were in the pipeline for the frontier State of Arunachal Pradesh, including the ‘Frontier Highway’ that will be constructed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Rijiju revealed this when the Arunachal Governor Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma (Retd) met him in New Delhi today to discuss the issues concerning connectivity, border area development and police modernisation in the State.
The MoS said the road will be strategically very important and highly beneficial for the people, particularly those living in the border areas. He also informed that the project would be started very soon along with other projects, including those under police modernisation.
The Governor, during his chat with the MoS, emphatically said that the various projects taken up by the Government of India in the State must be urgently implemented, particularly road connectivity for the welfare of the people.
He also stressed on ensuring proper shelter, food and habitat for the people living in border areas.
The Governor further pitched for releasing funds for pending proposals of the State involving setting up of 11 new police stations and upgradation of nine existing police stations in insurgency-infested districts of Tirap, Changlang and Longding.
Joint Secretary, Home (North East) Shambhu Singh and Joint Secretary, Police Modernisation Veena Kumari Meena also attended the meeting.
