Imphal, October 13, 2014: Kuki National Front (KNF) has said that KRA, which is currently under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) and is in KNO’s fold has opened a new army headquarters called Tintong Battalion at Veitum Kholen, New Keithelmanbi on October 8.
A press statement issued by KNF information and publicity secretary LH Stephen said that the battalion is operated under the command of self styled sergeant major Ronald Haokip of KRA with 11 automatic rifles.
Saying that it is an intentional gross violation of SoO ground rules, LH Stephen said that KNF will not tolerate this violation and KRA must be held responsible for any untoward incident.
LH Stephen stated that Tintong was a brave general and chief of Laijang, who led the Kuki chiefs to fight against the British during the Kuki Rebellion (1917-1919).
Using his name to create enmity within Kuki society is unfortunate and a disgrace to his name.
LH Stephen said that while the whole Kuki society and civil organisations and UPF and KNO are constantly trying to resolve the vexed Kuki political issue, this type of strategy of trying to grab an area is not acceptable to Kuki society. This can lead to chaos, killings and factional fights within the Kuki society, LH Stephen said. Saying that the hard earned peace and harmony could be lost due to this, LH Stephen appealed to the authority concerned, State Government and security forces to intervene on time and take necessary action.
