Dimapur, August 25, 2014: Western Viyixe Village Union (WVVU) has asked the authorities to expedite the probe into the killing of a student named Itoka Yeptho on August 23 in Khaghaboto, Dimapur by unidentified miscreants.

In a memorandum submitted to the DC Dimapur, WVVU president Yetovi Awomi and general secretary Shenito Yeptho said the case should be investigated with a sense of urgency without leaving any loopholes and arrest the culprits within six days from Monday. WVVU also demanded prosecution of the culprits to ensure that they were awarded befitting and maximum punishment as per the law to ensure that justice was delivered. The union said the accused should not be granted bail under any circumstances.

WVVU also asked the government to grant monetary compensation to the victim’s family members and to notify the public on the action taken on the case. While strongly condemning the killing, WVVU termed the act as “savage, inhuman and inconceivable offence.” WVVU informed that Itoka Yetho was a bonafide member of the union and a student of Salt Christian College. The union siad it was extremely “humiliated and distressed” by the heinous act without an iota of remorse.

Police arrest accused: Dimapur police said one identified as Ali Akbar of Horisala village, Morigaon, Assam, has been detained for further interrogation. Police sources added that as per the confessional statement to police, Ali Akbar had admitted that he stabbed the victim after a chase assuming him to be a cattle thief.

A case has been registered in this connection and further investigation was on to get full detail of the incident.
