Aizawl, August 25, 2014: In a judicial verdict, the District and Sessions Court, Aizawl on Saturday sentenced Raju Shamir Das to life imprisonment and asked him to fine Rs.5000 after being found guilty of murder.

Raju Shamir Das, a resident of Bilaipur (Assam) had allegedly murdered Lalawmpuii of Lungdai Sentlang village while she was going to paddy field way back in 2012 .

Between 9 a.m and 10 a.m, on October 22, 2012, one adult woman Lalawmpuii of Lungdai Sentlang village was found severely injured near the road after being assaulted by an unknown person on her way to paddy field.

She was found sustaining deep cuts on her back neck and abdomen.

The same day the victim was taken to Aizawl Civil Hospital where she succumbed to her injury.

As per the statement of Lalawmpuii, she was assaulted by a fodder cutter.

Since there was no other fodder cutter than a teenager named Raju Shamir Das in the area, he was held responsible for the offence and a case was register against him.

Meanwhile, the accused went missing from the place and was believed to have absconded to jungle after committing the crime.

Later at night he was arrested by police while the culprit entered the house of one Lalnawta out of hunger.

Subsequently, in the ensuing investigation, police found out that the murder was brutally committed by Raju Shamir Das.

The District and Sessions Court made a verdict last Saturday and sentenced Raju Samir Das to life imprisonment.

He was also asked to fine Rs.5000 failing of which his duration of imprisonment will be extended to 6 months more.

The night when Raju Shamir Das was arrested, a mob from Lungdai village rushed to Central Jail and in the process a clash broke out between police force.

The angry mob also tried to block NH.

However, they withdrew their plan after Home Minister R.Lalzirliana met the village leaders on the issue.
