Aizawl, September 6, 2014: Five people including two male twins and a wife of one of the twins died in a truck accident about halfway between Mizoram capital Aizawl and the southern town of Lunglei, police said Sunday.

The truck was on assignment for a cement company and police suspect the driver and handyman, who also died when it fell into a deep gorge near Sialsuk village, had picked up the three hitchhiking villagers along the road.

Though it is unclear exactly when the truck met with the accident, police suspect it fell into the gorge around 1 pm. It was detected only around 9 pm, however, after some of the victim’s villagers began looking for them as they had not returned by nightfall.

Police with the help of volunteers from the village recovered the bodies on Sunday morning and have identified the bodies as that of Zongaihoma (46), his twin brother Lalchawikunga and his wife Lalnunhlimi(36), all from Sailam village, truck driver Suhaq Uddin Borbhuiya(25) from Dholchera and a handyman they have as yet not been able to identify by the time of filing this report.
