Imphal, September 29, 2014: A sit-in-protest denouncing the deplorable road condition of the Pallel-Chandel road was held at the district head quarters Chandel today.

The protest was organized by the Chandel District Vigilance Committee in collaboration with the Bharatiya Janata Party Chandel district to denounce the deplorable condition of the road which remained unattended till date.

Talking to media persons on the sideline of the protest, District Vigilance Committee President BD Betha Anal said the protest was organized to denounce the non-start of the Pallel Chandel road even after the sanction of fund for restoration and repairing of the road has been accorded.

He mentioned that from the time when Chandel district attained a full fledged district in 1974, the district is lagging behind all other district in the field of education, health and developmental works.

At such juncture, the president went on to say that the district's main lifeline i.e.Pallel to Chandel has been in a deplorable state for the last ten years or more which according to the president has led to the chronic suffering of the people.

The president also informed of the memorandum submitted through fax to the PM of India Narendra Modi forwarding the same to Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highway and Khrishnan Pal, Minister of State, Ministry of Transport & Highways New Delhi and Governor of Manipur.

Vice President of BJP Chandel district Ts Konal while briefing media said the then Governor of Manipur VK Duggal during his visit in June last, had informed that the ministry sanctioned about 13 crores of rupees for repairing of the work however the road work has not been started.

Expressing unhappiness in this regard questioned for whereabouts of the money that was already sanctioned.
