Dimapur, September 14, 2014: The mobile vehicle check posts set up by troops of 29 Assam Rifles and 18 Assam Rifles seized 177 cases of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) in four separate operations between August 14 and September 5.

According to an AR press note, 114 cases of IMFL were seized in Dimapur on August 30 and 31 by the 29 AR and two persons were apprehended in this connection. In another such operation in Peren, the troops of 18 Assam Rifles seized 63 cases of IMFL and apprehended three persons on August 20 and September 5. All the arrested persons along with the seized goods were handed over to respective local police stations.

Ganja worth lakhs recovered
Meanwhile, troops of 29 and 18 Assam Rifles recovered huge quantity of contraband ganja in two separate incidents on August 29 and September 3 during their routine Mobile Vehicle Check Post.

According to a press note from Assam Rifles, around 94 kilos of ganja costing Rs.2.5 Lakhs approximately were recovered from three individuals on August 29 by the 29 AR between Patkai and Zubza.

The arrested individual along with the recovered contraband were handed over to Excise department, Dimapur.

In another operation, 103 kilos of Ganja, costing nearly 2.5 lakhs were recovered by troops of 18 Assam Rifles on September 3 from general area NTU, Peren district. The recovered ganja was later handed over to Tening Police station.

One apprehended for possession of arm
Troops of 29 Assam Rifles launched a search operation based on “specific information” about the presence of unauthorised weapons in a house in Lake View Colony, Dimapur on September 12.

During the operation, one 7.65 mm pistol was recovered, a press release from AR informed.

The house owner Awoto Achumi (35), who identified himself as SS Lt in NSCN (IM) was apprehended. The accused with the recovered weapon was handed over to West Police Station, Dimapur, it added.
