Guwahati, September 14, 2014: The Assam Police has stumbled upon clues about Indian’s most wanted multi-millionaire criminal Anil Chauhan, who continues to give cops across the country sleepless nights.

The ‘right hand’ of Chauhan, who is already in the wanted list of police departments of Mumbai, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Meghalaya and Assam, has finally been arrested by City Police.

Arrest of Chauhan’s closest aide by City Police has brightened hopes of the arrest of this elusive uncrowned king of India’s crime world. A special team of Assam Police is also on the job specifically to track down ‘Chauhan and company’.

With more than 100 cases of car theft and murder against his name, the charge-sheeted criminal is on the run ever since he was arrested around two years back by Guwahati Police and subsequently granted bail by the Gauhati High Court.

“Anil Chauhan is a very smart operator. Like his ilk, he does not use cell phones, which makes it even more difficult to track him down. He maintains secrecy about his whereabouts and even his closest ally is kept in the dark,” top police sources said.

“We had arrested him around two years back after working on his activities for several years, but before police departments of other states could step in, he was allowed to go on bail,” a senior Assam Police official told this reporter.

The City Police alone has developed nearly 20 cases against him and not too long ago, a team of Mumbai Police conducted an operation in search of the most wanted criminal.

Born and brought up in Assam, the 38-year-old multi-millionaire criminal has raised property worth several crores of rupees and has even diversified his business interests.

“We are on the job and ready to hit on the right and opportune time to net him,” Assam Police sources added.
