Imphal, October 11, 2014: All stations and sub-stations of the Jiribam-Imphal railway currently under construction would be named after ancestral heroes and leaders of the land.

This was announced by Chief Minister O Ibobi at the 2 day golden jubilee function of the Ragailong Women Society held at Ragailong today.

The railway station which would come up at Kambiron along Jiribam-Tupul railway line would be named after freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang.

Ibobi added that photos of the freedom fighter will also be displayed at the sub-station to let the people coming from other places know about the leader.

The Chief Minister said that a decision to this effect has been taken by the Government and added that Kambiron is going to be the biggest sub-station on the Jiribam to Imphal via Tupul Railway line.

Manipuri women have been shouldering commendable and momentous roles in many socio-political and economic crises that unfolded in the State.

There are many Zeliangrong villages and settlements in Manipur valley which are predominantly inhabited by Meiteis but there is not a single event of conflict between the two communities. This is largely due to the cordial disposition of the Zeliangrong community, Ibobi stated.

Notwithstanding all the criticisms of the Zeliangrong community being very conservative, the community has been successfully preserving their ancient traditions and customs. This is one aspect of Zeliangrong community which merits appreciation and acknowledgement.

The Chief Minister further called upon all the people of Manipur to groom and hone the traits of perseverance, industriousness and detestation against dependence which collectively defined the ancestors of the land.

The Zeliangrong people should strive to imbibe the qualities and traits of Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu.

The Government has been working on different plans with a vision to ensure that all the ancestral heroes and leaders are remembered and venerated forever.

Ibobi further called upon all the people of Manipur to reinforce the unity among different communities and collectively safeguard the integrity of Manipur.

The function was presided by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam. Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, MLA Y Erabot, MLA O Landhoni and MLA Janghemlung Panmei were also seated on the dais as guests of honour.
