Jalah, October 23, 2014: Suspected NDFB(S) militants snatched three 303 rifles, one 315 rifle, walkie-talkies, torchlights, mobiles and other items from the forest guards inside Manas National Park yesterday.

According to police sources, a group of armed militants stormed the Sihajhar camp in Kahitema range of the National Park and took away the arms and other materials belonging to the forest guards of the camp. The gunmen also went to the Chalabghat camp and made way with one walkie-talkie and other items.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified search operation in the area to recover the items and arrest the people involved in the crime. Baksa SP Mojibur Rahman said they have picked up few persons in connection with the incident. He said a joint search operation by the police and the army is on in the area since yesterday.

The incident has put question marks on the conservation efforts in Manas National Park, which regained its World Heritage Site status by UNESCO after 19 years in June, 2012.
