Demanding raising the ratio of persons appearing for Interview in Manipur Civil Service Combined Competitive Exam 2014 conducted by the MPSC, the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has urged the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) not to conduct the interview unless the ratio is increased to 1:5.

Vareiyo Shatshang, general secretary of ATSUM (T) while addressing a press meet at its Nagaram office today said that according to MSCCCE Rules, 2010, the number of candidates admitted to the main written exam should be five time the total vacancies.

The corresponding number of candidates admitted to the interview would be about twice the number of available vacancies.

However, 757 candidates have been named as qualifying for the main written exam which is about 20 times the total vacancies, Vareiyo said.

As such, the number of candidates admitted for the interview should be five times the vacancy, he reasoned.

Among the 757 candidates appearing for the main written exam, only 79 candidates (about about ten percent of the candidates) are selected to appear in the interview in the MCSCCE 2014, he said.

As a rule, the number of candidates qualifying for the interview in MCSCCE 2014 should be round about 190 instead of 79, the ATSUM leader said.

Comparing the ratio with the previous exam (2013), Vareiyo Shatshang said 459 candidates appeared for the mains written exam and 189 candidates appeared for the interview for filling 84 vacant posts which is in the ratio of around 2:5.

He therefore urged the MPSC to cancel the interview for the MCSCCE 2014 unless the ratio is increased to 1:5.
