Agartala, October 20, 2014: Alarmed at the growing instances of financial irregularities, the State Government has suspended Bimal Chakraborty, a Tripura Civil Services (TCS) officer for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore scam at Bishalgarh RD Block in Sipahijala district, official sources said here today.

Chakraborty, who was the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Bishalgarh RD Block, has been suspended for his alleged hand in misappropriation of fund amounting to Rs 17 crore, said an official here on Monday.

Based on a special audit report indicating misappropriation of MGNREGA fund at Bishalgarh RD Block for the past one and half years, an FIR was lodged against 12 officers and employees including the then BDO Bimal Chakraborty on September 19.

After receiving substantial evidence, the government has placed Chakraborty under suspension paving the way for an impartial probe into the multi-crore scam, the official said.

Today’s suspension also paves the way for undertaking departmental proceeding against the officer, who was Dy Director of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA).

Piling heat on the government, the Congress today declared it would file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court demanding CBI probe into multi-crore scam at Bishalgarh RD block.

Speaking to media, opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman said a senior advocate of West Bengal would move the PIL on October 27.
