New Delhi, August 27, 2014: Adding fuel to the fire in the ongoing controversy, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijju hinted that internal politics of the ruling Congress is one of the factors responsible for the clash along the Assam-Nagaland border.

The Minister’s reaction is the latest in the ongoing controversy over the purported intelligence report that held the dissidents in the Congress party as having played a role in the Assam-Nagaland border clash. The disgruntled group has not taken kindly to the alleged report.

With Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi announcing his decision to hand over the probe of the clash to the CBI, matters have taken a serious turn.

Talking to newsmen, Rijiju said that there were various reasons and factors for the clash. Without going into the details, Rijiju, who attended a meeting between the Chief Ministers of Assam and Nagaland, said that the internal feud in the Congress party contributed to the clash. But he added that it was sad that the people of Assam had to suffer.

Declining to give specifics about the controversial IB report, he said that the report had mentioned names of several groups and communities alleging its involvement in the clash. “I don’t want to take names and create fresh tensions,” he said.

Earlier, he had defended the role of the Central government with regard to the clashes near the Assam-Nagaland border.

He has said that Central government will provide all the necessary assistance, but the onus is on the States to resolve the matter.

“Whatever has happened in Assam is because of the problem in Assam-Nagaland border. The Assam and Nagaland governments should sit together and resolve the problem,” Rijiju said.
