Imphal, September 30, 2014: Soon people of the State would not need to stand in queues in front of specified counters for payment of power bills.

A new system of paying power bills at SBI branches would be launched soon and pre-paid consumers can re-charge their power balance online under the same system.

A high ranking official of the corporation informed that the new system is being formulated after the Power Department has been segmented into transmission and distribution companies to ease payment of power bills and re-charging of power balance.

The power corporation and the State Bank of India have struck an agreement to allow payment of power bills at any SBI branch.

The new arrangement would come into effect from November 1 and the State Government is working to open the same facility of power bill payment at other bank branches.

Construction of exclusive web portal for power corporation is almost complete. Once the portal is complete, consumers particularly pre-paid consumers can recharge their power balance online.

Installation of energy meters in Imphal East and Imphal West districts would be completed within the month of October.

The same project of energy meter installation for Thoubal and Bishnupur districts would be completed in November. Energy meter installation in hill district headquarters would be completed by March next year.

Once the new energy meters are fully installed, the deficit power requirement would be calculated and plans are afoot for round the clock power supply by way of purchasing the deficit power requirement.

On the other hand, Chief Minister O Ibobi yesterday held a meeting with NRIs and discussed the feasibility of setting up a special Information Technology (IT) economic zone at Mantripukhri. The State Government is planning for a booming IT industry in the State and exportation of IT products.
