Tura, August 28, 2014: The spree of murder continues unabated in the Garo Hills region with three bodies recovered by West Garo Hills police from Oragitok village about 30 km from Tura.
The village is a stronghold of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA). One of the murdered men has been identified as a hardcore cadre of the Achik National Volunteer Council - B (ANVC-B). The other two remain unidentified.
According to police, the Nokma of Oragitok village called the police around 8 am today stating that three bodies were found in the village bordering East and West Garo Hills.
Fearing an ambush by GNLA, the police moved very cautiously and reached the spot. The Magistrate accompanying the police performed inquest of the three bodies which were then brought to the Civil Hospital here for post-mortem.
All the three murdered men had their hands tied behind their backs and had multiple gun shot wounds, suggesting execution-style killing.
The hardcore ANVC (B) militant has been identified as Grendal T Sangma (25) from the ID card recovered from his body. Among the most wanted militants in Garo Hills, he was charged in a murder case registered in Williamnagar PS and has been absconding ever since. The East Garo Hills police had conducted search operations in his house to nab him but he had been elusive.
The identity of the two others killed in cold blood could not be determined. Investigation into the case is on.
