Khuga Dam canal breach shocks JAC

CCPur, August 25, 2014: Taking serious note of the alleged irregularities and misappropriation of funds for construction of Khuga Dam Multipurpose project, the Joint Action Committee of the Khuga Dam has expressed shock over the recent breach of the canal which occurred on August 22.

A press release of the JAC said this is the third time in a year that such a breach has occurred.

Although IFC department officials reported that the Khuga Dam canal lining on right and left was completed, yet it remains incomplete, said Chairman of JAC Khuga Dam Project.

The physical picture in reality is that not even a stretch of 5 Kms of canal lining is completed or constructed, although a large sum of money had been sanctioned for the said Dam, it said.

It further pointed out that numerous breaches of the canal on left and right side leading to overflow of water to the low lying areas.
