Guwahati, September 16, 2014: Assam government today started the process of decentralisation in the police force by giving power to the district Superintendent of Police for transfering Inspector or lower-ranked officials without any permission from the DGP.
“The process of decentralisation in the Assam Police has set in with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi giving the final approval,” an official release said.
Following this, the SPs will now be able to transfer police officials in the rank of Inspector and below within their district limits and also the DIGs within their range, it added.
Earlier, the DGP’s prior approval was required before transfer of such officials. However, the DGP’s approval has to be obtained in case any such officers having not completed two years in their place of posting, the release said.
