Silchar, September 3. 2-14: With the withdrawal of last date for nominations, the battle–lines for Silchar and Lakhipur by polls have been drawn. 206590 voters in Silchar and 137415 voters will decide the fate of candidates in the fray on September 13.

The voters will turn up in 225 polling stations in Silchar and 161 in Lakhipur to exercise their franchise. The district administration of Cachar after identifying the critical sensitive and very sensitive polling booths has detailed the plan for security cover in order to conduct the polls in a peaceful manner. Precautions have been taken to ensure that there is no repeat of the procedural mistakes during the polling process.

In the last Parliamentary elections in as many as 5 polling stations in Silchar and 1 in Lakhipur, polling process was disrupted due to procedural mistakes and tempering as well as damage to EVMs by miscreants. The Election Commission of India on the other hand has put in place several administrative safeguards for EVMs.

With dateline approaching near, barely 10 days away, Congress, BJP, AIUDF, CPM and SUCI have begun campaign in their own way, laying stress on street lectures and door to door approach for mass contact and reach their appeal for favour at the hustings. With the enforcement of model code of conduct, all the political parties in the reckoning are conscious as well as cautious about walking extra–mile.

In the meantime, Arun Dutta Mazumdar, Congress, Dilip Paul, BJP, Dulal Mitra, CPM, Noor Ahmed, AIUDF, and Pradip Kumar Deb, SUCI, have taken up the battle in right earnest. For Lakhipur seat, Rajdeep Goala, Congress, Mukesh Pandey, AIUDF, Jai Singh Chetri, SUCI and Sanjay Thakur, BJP, have girded up their loins to contest. It is ultimately the voters who will decide the fate of the winner or losers. It is the strategy and approach of candidates along with their winnability that will count to tilt the balance in favour and against.

But, from all reckoning, Dilip Paul of BJP, ward commissioner, has been on the forefront of campaign with party workers. He has made it a point to cover all the 28 municipal wards of his constituency of Silchar and with that objective he has geared up all available resources. Besides making door to door appeal, leaflets containing his plan and programme for implementation if he emerges victorious. As a president of the Silchar Mandal Committee of the party and a representative in the Board of Municipality, he has made a place for himself and is a well–known personality.

Being associated with organizational works, Dilip Paul has gained enough experience and got himself acquainted with the civic problems of the town. Quite naturally, he has promised to see that unbridled corruption, ill–planning and the resultant miseries for the people of this town are cleansed. The problems of power, roads, drinking water, drainage system as well as water–logging during rains are the issues which he would try to find a way out to ensure better and sustainable way of living for all.

As a dedicated worker of BJP, he would leave no stone unturned to fulfil the hopes and expectations of the citizens of this town if elected. He foresees the exit of Congress in the Assembly elections of 2016. He would also explore all avenues to get the people’s demands met from the NDA Government led by Narendra Modi. He is of course aware of the approval of the Congress government at Dispur, but it is only a matter of time that it is voted out of power and paved the way for the installation of BJP government. He has called upon the voters to exercise their democratic right on the day of polling in large numbers in his favour.
