Guwahati, September 12, 2014: A teenaged girl from Kokrajhar district in Assam, who was forced to work as a domestic help in Gurgaon, was rescued by Gurgaon police with the help of Childline on Wednesday.

A source here today said the victim was lured by a youth on the pretext of a job and handsome salary.

The youth, whose name is unknown to the victim, took her to New Delhi and handed her over to Deepak, who runs a placement agency, Jharkhand Sewa Service.

“The girl was then placed as a domestic worker at a house in Sector 49 in Gurgaon on an advance payment of Rs 30,000 to the agent by her employer. However, she was not paid any money though she used to do household chores and also take care of young children of her employers,” the source said.

One day the victim contacted her parents in Kokrajhar through the mobile of another maid of the house.

The family informed the Child Welfare Committee in Kokrajhar and the information was given to the Delhi Commission for the Protection of Child Rights.

Working on the information given by the phone call, Gurgaon Childline, which is run by NGO Shakti Vahini, and the Gurgaon police conducted a rescue operation and the girl was found.

The girl has not reported any physical assault by her employers and only said she was not paid any money for her work so far.

A general diary entry has been made at Sadar police station in Gurgaon, after which a complete medical check-up of the girl was conducted.

She is now lodged at a shelter home on the direction of Gurgaon Child Welfare committee and will be sent to her home soon.
