Mokokchung, September 7, 2014: Several villages along the Japukong range in Mokokchung district remained badly affected as landslides due to heavy rains blocked surrounding roads. Due to rains since September 4 from 7:00pm to 7:00am, 14 landslides have occurred at several locations in the Japukong range.

Of these, Japu village is completely cut off from Nagaland, with water supply and electricity gone off. Plantation, paddy fields and cattle were also affected. 6 cows were taken away by flooding water from River Tzuong. One non local labour was also reported to be taken away by the flood.

Other villages affected are yet to assess their damage. The PWD, Government of Nagaland, is working to clear the landslides. Meanwhile, the Mokokchung district administration has not come forward with any aid to the rescue of the citizens.
