New Delhi, September 2, 2014: A 22-year-old Manipuri youth was allegedly strangled by a friend after an argument over a drink in Maurice Nagar, north Delhi, late on Friday. Police said the friend himself came to the police station and surrendered.
The incident was reported around 11pm when Ninajai (25) came to police claiming he had a fight with his friend and he had strangled him inside his room. A team found a man lying unconscious on a mattress at the flat. He was declared dead at Bara Hindu Rao Hospital.
Lalwayi was in second-year at DU and stayed with Ninajai at a rented accommodation. Police said the two youths were having a party at their house when they got into an argument which turned ugly after Lalwayi hit Ninajai.
Police said that the two men soon got into a fight, during which Ninajai strangled Lalwayi with his hands first but when he started resisting he picked up a rope and strangled him until he fell unconscious.
Realising what he had done, Ninajai ran to the police station and told the cops about the incident. He said that he was not in his senses when he had committed the crime but he was arrested on charges of murder under section 302 IPC. He has been sent to a 14-day judicial custody.
Lalwayi's body was sent for a post mortem at the Bara Hindu Rao hospital and his family members were informed about the incident. It will be handed over to them once they come to Delhi. They said that the two youths were from the same village in Manipur and had been staying together.
