Guwahati, September 22, 2014: Bad news for the flood-hit people of the State. Rainfall activities may continue over the NE region for another two to three days under the influence of a low-pressure area spreading between Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal.

This low-pressure area is associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 4.5 km above the mean sea level, said Regional Meteorology Centre (RMC) meteorologist Sunit Das.

Das said that under the influence of the system, rainfall activities occurred over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam-Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura Meteorological Sub-divisions during the past three days.

The afternoon weather bulletin of the Borjhar-based RMC forecasts probability of rain or thundershower at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

It warns of heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with extremely heavy rains at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh on September 22 and over Assam and Meghalaya on September 22 and 23. Besides, it said heavy to very heavy rain would occur at isolated places over Assam and Meghalaya on September 24 and over Arunachal Pradesh on September 23. Heavy rains would occur at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on September 22 and 23, the bulletin said.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, Arunachal Pradesh meteorological sub-division recorded 22.7 mm of rainfall yesterday, against the normal of 12.3 mm with an excess departure percentage of 77. During the same day, Assam and Meghalaya Meteorological Sub-division recorded 23.3 mm of rainfall, against a normal of 8.5 mm with the excess departure percentage of 174. The Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura Meteorological Sub-division recorded a rainfall amount of 9.3 mm during the day, against the normal of 7.9 mm and a departure percentage of 18.

Today, Arunachal Pradesh Meteorological Sub-division has recorded a rainfall amount of 32.6 mm, against the normal of 10.1 mm with an excess departure percentage of 222.Assam Meghalaya recorded a rainfall amount of 84.9 mm, against the normal of 9.2 mm with an excess departure percentage of 823. However, against the normal rainfall of 9.1 mm, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura Meteorological Sub-division recorded a rainfall amount of 8.7 mm with a departure percentage of 4, said an IMD bulletin this afternoon.
