The eight-member team representing various Union Ministries will be conducting aerial and field survey of flood-affected areas of the State.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki while welcoming the visiting team apprised them of major damages caused to the State by the natural catastrophe. He opined for admitting recommendation of two kinds, first being considering rebuilding of infrastructure which has been completely damaged and second being the repair and renovation works on lesser damages.
Tuki also urged the Central team to consider taking up the proposals of mini hydel projects in the border areas which have been left damaged due to flood and landslides.
He further requested the Centre to consider funding on maintenance of highways in the backdrop of State coming up with one of the longest internal highway.
The State being a flood-prone zone - V, a comprehensive plan for flood protection is required for minimising the loss of life and property in such natural disasters, Tuki asserted.
Later, in a joint meeting of Commissioners, Secretaries and Heads of departments, the visiting team was briefed about the quantum of damages caused due to the natural catastrophe through power-point presentation. The Chief Engineers of the State gave a statistical figure of the loss caused due to landslides and landslips which disrupted surface communication.
In a memorandum submitted to the visiting team, the State Government has projected Rs 2329.25 crore loss incurred due to the natural catastrophe in the current year.
Participating in the meeting, Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi gave a brief on the soil condition of the State and said that due to loose soil condition, the State is prone to disaster. He, however, requested the Inter Ministerial Team to have proper assessment of the areas which have been badly hit by the floods and landslides.
