Itanagar, October 9, 2014: Diganta Teron, a photo journalist- turned-Panchayat leader of Kokila village under Balijan circle of Papum Pare district in Arunachal Pradesh was stabbed to death allegedly by one Nabam Taya on Wednesday.

Describing the incident, police said, around 2.30 am the accused driving a white Bolero reportedly went to the victim’s house at Kokila village, located along Assam-Arunachal border, and started kicking the door asking him to come out.

The moment Diganta came out, the accused stabbed him twice, injuring him critically. He was evacuated to RK Mission Hospital at Itanagar, but doctor declared him brought dead after a brief examination, police said.

Meanwhile, it’s learnt that the accused has surrendered before the police at Doimukh. Born on January 9, 1980, Diganta, before joining active politics, had worked with a private news channel based at Itanagar as cameraman and later, with the Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Itanagar.

Expressing deep shock over the incident, Arunachal Press Club and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists mourned his demise and conveyed heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Terming it a cold-blooded murder, the Karbi Students’ Association, Kokila condemned the crime and demanded the authority to award stringent punishment to the culprit.
