Imphal, October 5, 2014: Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has urged Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for introduction of helicopter services for better connectivity between the far-flung areas of Manipur, reliable sources said.

Ibobi in a letter to Rajnath Singh has urged him to introduce helicopter services between Imphal and Moreh, Jiribam and Tamenglong.

He also requested the Union Home Minister to bear 75 per cent of the total expenditure of the helicopter service. Earlier, several rounds of high level meetings were held to discuss the helicopter service as per follow up instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the State Government on the feasibility of covering routes including Imphal-Tamenglong-Jiribam-Parbung-Churachandpur and Imphal-Moreh-Imphal-Dimapur. The Ministry had even reportedly suggested that Pawan Hans may provide helicopters on the same pattern and on subsidy basis as is being supported by the MHA for such services in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya.

Girls killed: Meanwhile, two girls died in a road accident while a youth was stabbed to death following a scuffle in Uripok area in Manipur.

The two girls who were going for tuition died in the accident at Khabam Lamkhai under Heingang Police Station last morning, sources said. The incident occurred when the two girls riding a two wheeler Honda Activa reportedly hit a truck parked on the road side, the report added.

The incident of stabbing happened when the deceased Angom Birendrajit (31) of Uripok Yambem Leikai was called out by one Tongbram Nonglenkhomba of Uripok Bachaspati Maning Leikai following a scuffle in Imphal on Thursday night. Protesting the incident, the locals of Uripok destroyed the house of the persons involved in the stabbing. Police have rounded up both the said accused along with his father.

Later, the locals decided to drive out the family of the accused from the locality and asked them to pay Rs 20 lakh to the victim’s family.
