Guwahati, October 27, 2014: The mega block for the Lumding-Silchar gauge conversion project is progressing at smooth pace and the metre gauge/broad gauge (MG/BG) cut and connect at 44 locations out of the total 102 locations have so far been completed.
Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction) senior PRO DC Borah said in a statement on Monday that about 3,000 personnel have been engaged for track linking by various agencies working in the section. The mega block started on October 1 and is expected to be over by March 31, 2015.
“Connectivity between Mandardisa and Hatikhali has been achieved on October 26. The tunnel No. 11 was made through on October 13 and the much awaited and difficult tunnel No. 10, which is the longest one in the entire project with a length of 3.23 km, was also made through on October 19,” he said.
There are altogether 17 tunnels in the section and the balance work of tunnels like benching, lining and inverting will be completed before January 31, 2015.
“The road overbridge (ROB) No. 84 was commissioned on October 20 and this will enable completion of yard works at Jatinga Lumpur station. Track linking of BG line is also progressing satisfactorily at various locations of the Lumding-Silchar route,” Borah said.
