Imphal, October 19, 2014: Close on the heels of Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh’s reaction on recent crimes against North East people in metros, Manipur People’s Party (MPP) has demanded a joint meeting of Central authority and CMs of the region to bring an amicable solution to the issue.
“CMs of NE region should jointly urge the Centre to bring an amicable solution to the issue of racism,” said MPP vice president N Ojit. The party also condemned the recent incidents in Bengaluru and Delhi.
On Saturday, Ibobi had expressed the need to hold a joint meeting with Centre and CMs and MPs of NE to safeguard the people of the region in other parts of the country.
“This is not the first time. The people of the region may get alienated if such incidents continue in future”, said Ibobi while reacting to the report of recent attacks. I have written to Central leaders on the issue”, he added.
Stating that he had a talk with the Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju over the recent incidents, he observed that the integrity of the country may be affected if such things continue in future.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam alleged that the recent attacks on students of the region are discriminatory. Condemning the recent incidents as acts of racial profiling and cowardice, Manipur MP Meinya urged the Union Government and Union Home and Law Ministries in particular for immediate legislation of an anti-racial law to effectively deal with such uncivilised acts.
