Kangpokpi, August 28, 2014: All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has strongly condemned the alleged physical attack on the executive members of KSO Chandel during the 24 hr. total bandh enforced by the student body on August 21.

The arrest of KSO Chandel executives, Minlal Haokip (Health, Environment and Forest Secretary) and Onkho Zou (Information Secretary) and their subsequent detention at Kakching police station were highly condemnable, said Emboi Serto, President of ATSUM while adding that the communal assertion by T.Tanden Singh, MPS, SDPO is against the fabric of the Manipur Society.

The tribal student apex body chief also wondered, 'how an officer of his stature can threaten that Nagas, Kukis and Muslims are migrants and has no right to demand anything from the state of Manipur' .

Asking the two student leaders to join KNA and face encounter with the police is a shame for the state police forces, Emboi said, while alleging that the police officer even asked his constables to shoot them.

ATSUM will not allow this kind of attitude for an officer occupying such a high post, continued Emboi while adding that the Home Department needs to look into the matter very seriously.

ATSUM would like to suggest that the police officer be transfer to Tengnoupal or other interior police stations and see what his judgment will be in critical crisis, added Emboi.

While urging all tribal organizations and people to cooperate and support ATSUM, Emboi stated that ATSUM team will also be going to Delhi to meet the central leadership to apprise them of the various issues facing the tribals.
