Imphal, August 26, 2014: National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur Project Director Okram Ibomcha has said that NHM is committed to encourage institutional child delivery among expecting mothers.

On the sidelines of an inspection tour to health centres of Henglep Sub-Division in Churachandpur district, Ibomcha said that with an aim to achieve the Central Government's objective of further bringing down the infant mortality rate (IMR), NHM Manipur is putting in constant efforts to introduce child delivery facilities in Government health centres at nook and corners of the State.

With NHM Manipur's relentless efforts, the State now has 70 child delivery centres, Ibomcha said.

Saying that required equipment have been installed and necessary staff and health volunteers have been deputed at these centres, Ibomcha said that three PHSCs of Henglep Sub-Division would get similar facilities soon.

The Project Director visited Government health facilities at Komkeirap, Charoi Khullen and Bunglong and interacted with the staff of these centres on infrastructure, manpower and equipment inadequacies.

Announcing that NHM Manipur would provide child delivery facilities to all the PHCs of the State before Christmas, Ibomcha said that PHSCs, located at strategic locations, would also be upgraded to child delivery centres.

Manpower management and posting of staff to interior areas have always been a problem, he said and added that the Central Government has instructed NHM Manipur to engage trained or skilled health volunteers from the respective localities and villages on contract basis to solve the problem.

During his visit to interior Charoi Khullen PHSC, the Project Director recruited a Maibi (traditional healer/health worker), who is an expert in child delivery, as a helper of child delivery cases of the PHSC.

He also asked the woman to encourage institutional child delivery to the expecting mothers of the village and adjoining areas.

She will be given Rs 300 for every child birth in the PHSC.

The Project Director also recruited a Chowkidar for the PHSC.

Regarding other districts, Ibomcha said that he has been visiting other health centres at different parts of the State.

Saying that an ILR machine was installed at Jessami a few days back, he said that he has also instructed to upgrade the health facilities at Behiang, an interior village located along the border.
