CCPur, September 6, 2014: The Reserved Bank of India (RBI), today, organized a financial literacy camp at Siamsinapawlpi (SSPP) Residential School, Nghathal wherein it sought to inculcate savings and banking habit in early life. The bank also handed over passbooks on the spot to over 170 students who opened their accounts that day.

The camp, attended by more than 250 students from two schools, was addressed by DC Churachandpur, PK Jha; AGM (Rural Planing & Credit Department) RBI Guwahati, MT Muanding Guite; BO DC Office, S Khaikhopau Ngaihte; Binita Devi, Assistant RBI Guwahati; Ruthi Paununmuang, Assistant RBI Guwahati, and Lead District Manager Nimai Singh.

While the Deputy Commissioner encouraged the students to excel in their studies and follow the career of their choice, Ngaihte spoke about the importance of having a bank account and the basic knowledge of banking.

AGM Guite, also briefed the students on the various roles and functions of RBI. He said the RBI launched a project of ‘financial inclusion’ 8 years back which is now carried forward in a mission mode under the PMJDY to bring all the population of India under banking and financial system. He further pointed out how the process of opening bank account have been simplified and encouraged students and family to avail the opportunity.

A quiz based on the speeches delivered during the sessions was conducted as part of the event. the winners were then awarded with small tokens by the RBI.

The RBI also presented water filters, sports materials and comic books to the SSPP Residential School. UCO Bank and Manipur Rural Bank also handed over 145 and 26 passbook each to the students.
