On Saturday, two persons were killed while around 10 others sustained injuries following a confrontation between the police and demonstrators who were demanding an acceptable and honourable settlement of the Indo-Naga issue and withdrawal of prohibitory orders from Ukhrul town. However, the situation is said to be under control on Sunday with normal life back in the hill town.
The CM conveyed this to the media after visiting the injured persons at the RIMS hospital in Imphal. He also said, the government does not want to deploy security forces. On the imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 in Ukhrul town, he said that the order was imposed to maintain law and order. CM added that prohibitory orders were also imposed in other districts to protect lives and properties of the people.
The district magistrate had imposed 144 CrPC in the district headquarters on July 13 last to avoid any untoward incident after the gunning down of Ukhrul ADC member Ngalangzar Malue by unidentified gunmen.
Meanwhile, the civil society organisations under the aegis of United Naga Council is reportedly planning to hold a mass funeral service of the two killed persons at Tangkhul Naga Long premises on Monday.
