Shillong, October 11, 2014 (NNN): Six dacoits, most of them minors, were caught by the villagers of Megongre in West Garo Hills (WGH) on Wednesday when the six were attempting to rob villagers. Angry villagers caught the six and after a sound thrashing handed them over to the police in Dadengre, about 50 kms from Tura.

The shocking part of the incident was that all the six caught were teens with the youngest one being just 13 years old, three of them 16 and two over 18.

The gang had carried out the recent kidnapping of a child in Zekabari village and demanded Rs 1 lakh for his release. Sources said the money was paid which may have emboldened them in committing more crimes.

The two 18-year-olds have been identified as Tapol Marak and Welson Marak and all the six belong to Rongsanggre village under Selsella Block in WGH.

The police recovered one SBML gun and five dummy guns which they were using to loot people. All of them have been forwarded to Tura on Friday.
