Imphal, October 21, 2014: A large number of students and volunteers of Manipur University Students' Union Revival Demand Committee (MUSU-RDC) and Joint Students Co-ordination Committee (JSCC) dismantled the Administration Block of Manipur University after they got the information that some A-Block employees had reported for duty.

It may be mentioned that demanding review of the break-up figures for admission of SC/ST/OBC and UR of Manipur University, students put the A-Block under lock and key on October 13 last.

They also have been boycotting VC Prof H Nandakumar Sharma and Registrar Prof Naorem Lokendra for their alleged corrupt, despotic and malpractices in the administrative functioning of the varsity.

This afternoon, a large number of students stormed the A-Block breaking open the gate and overpowering the security personnel deployed there and broke windows and dismantled other properties.

However, a large police team of Singjamei police station led by O/C Santosh arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control.

Speaking to reporters, MUSU-RDC convenor Th Suresh said that despite the memorandum submitted by them to review of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012, the MU authority has not given any positive response till date.

He also said that they would continue to impose the closure of Administration Block until the Act is reviewed.
