Imphal, October 13, 2014: Demanding review of the break-up figures for admission of SC/ST/OBC and UR of Manipur University, aggrieved students today attempted to put the Administrative Block of the varsity under lock and key.

Some groups of students today spilled used lubricant oil on a road turning leading to the A-Block to block movement along the road.

Police later covered the road with sands and diverted movement to prevent any untoward incident.

Moments later, a commotion ensued between the students and police/Home Guard personnel when the students were prevented from locking the lower gate of the A-Block by the police.

Another attempt to lock the northern gate of the A-block was thwarted with the intervention of the security personnel.

The Vice-Chancellor and other MU authority were not present when the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, speaking to media persons, Manjit Sarangthem, member of MUSU Revival Demand Committee said the agitation would be carried on until the authority reviews the break-up figures for admission under the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Amendment Act, 2012.

He also demanded that the present break-up figures be implemented from the next academic session.

Meanwhile, a joint statement issued by the MUSU-RDC and Joint Students' Coordination Committee (JSCC) announced the boycott of University Citizens' Day today.

The joint statement said that confusion has been caused by the break-up figures which was submitted by the Registrar without the consent of the MU Academic Council to the Secretary to Governor, Manipur on July 23. It also alleged that the performance of MU in academic and other co-curricular activities has degraded due to defective administration.

The joint students' bodies also announced their decision to boycott VC Prof H Nandakumar Sarma and Registrar, Prof Naorem Lokendra for their alleged corrupt, despotic and malpractices in the administrative functioning of the varsity.
