Gangtok, August 26, 2014: Torrential rain havoc continue to disrupt normal lives in several parts of state of Sikkim past two weeks. Landslide and road blockade heavily affects West Sikkim , in several places families are being evacuated due to fear of landslide.

Road condition report under South District as on 25.08.2014

1. Yangang to Ravangla road blocked at Dojak since July. Restoration work will be initiated only after monsoon as the area is very fragile and the slide is quite huge.
2. Lingmoo to Yangang road blocked at Mangzing since 23.08.2014
3. Yangang to Pabong blocked today at Fatak near Sibsu, but restored today at 11:00 a.m.
4. Phongla to Bermiok blocked at Bedhghari, expected to open by 26.08.2014
5. Singtam to Bermiok road blocked at Namphing due to washed out road formation on 24.08.2014. Restoration work has been initiated, expected to restore within a week.
6. Frequent blockage of report of Namchi Phongla road since a week though the Roads Department is continuously engaged for restoration. The road extension work in the area has aggravated the frequent landslide causing frequent blockage.

In addition to above, there are several reports of partial and severe house damages in the district. Concerned Revenue Surveyor and GVAs are already directed to assess the damage for release of ex-gratia relief. Directives have also been issued to all Revenue Surveyor and Asstt. Revenue surveyor, not to leave their duty station during this monsoon period.
District Administration, South is also updating Food Stock position in the District in Official website at DAC Namchi (facebook) on daily basis along with road condition report for public convenience.

There has bee tremendous problem due to downpour in North Sikkim past many days due to road blockade, civilians have started blaming Border Road Organization BRO GREF for their negligence in timely restoring the road connectivity to Lachung, Lachen, Chungthang and Mangan like prominent places in North Sikkim. Commuters are seen walking along the trench of landslide hit areas whereas rain continue to hamper the normal lives.

In East Sikkim, the NH-10 (formerly NH-31A) , a highway extending from Siliguri to capital Gangtok is facing major clogging at different parts. The major hurdle place in 9th Mile gets seriously affected due to which long strand of vehicles remain in fray for all-most 2-3 hours. The cancerous portion extending from Rangpo in Sikkim to capital have series of crucial dead points where the GREF’s untimely work suffocates traffic. The road cutting which are half done along 34 Kms Highway is in bad shape, the falling stones and debris causes hinderance for traffic during the day time especially.

All-to-gather there has been report of two deaths so far resulting from downpour and landslide in the state past week.
