Guwahati, September 16, 2014: Super Division League Champions ASEB Sports Club pulled off a 4-2 victory against A Division outfit City Police in the inaugural match of the 63rd Bharat Ratna Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy Football Tournament in penalty shoot-out.
In a lacklustre encounter at the Nehru Stadium here today, no team could show their form in which they were during the recently concluded GSA leagues. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Syed Ansar put ASEB ahead in the 7th minute. Police custodian Uchan Saikia fumbled to gather the ball off a shot from Jerry Vanlalmuana and Syed pushed home from inside the box. After the break, Satyaghna Konwar drew parity in the 71st minute with a header. Amulya Das set the ball for Satrughna off a set piece.
ASEB were distinctly the dominating side but their strikers Jerry, Karma Narzary squandered few easy scoring opportunities.
In tie-breaker, Nitu Narzary, Biplob Kundu and Y Gopi Singh were the successful shooters for ASEB while for police only Dwimalu Brahma could find the net.
Earlier, former GSA president Jatin Bora inaugurated the tournament. Former Santosh Trophy player Tapash Chetterjee was the guest of honour in the opening ceremony, MLA Capt Robin Bordoloi Assam Football Association secretary Ankur Dutta and Abdul Latif were also present on the occasion.
