Imphal, August 31, 2014: At a time when pro-ILPS movement is gaining momentum, a non-local has allegedly duped State natives and disappeared with Rs 35 lakh.

The matter came to light after a victim Hussain Ahemad of Kwakta complained the matter to Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS).

Speaking to reporters at JCILPS office, Hussain said that he became a friend of Irfan Ahemad Merchent (45) s/o Khalid Hanneb Ahemad from Mumbai through his family members.

Saying that Irfan has been staying in Mantripukhri near Manipur Mall since past one year and a half with two of his adopted kids - one 5-year-old girl and one 10-year-old boy.

During his stay in Manipur, Irfan had collected around Rs 35 lakh from different Meitei Pangal families of Kwakta, Hapta Golapati, Kairang and Yairipok in the name of instituting a charity organisation which would construct schools, hospitals and Mosques etc for poor Muslims.

On the promise of giving promotion, Irfan had also collected a huge amount of money from many Meitei Pangals, who are working in the Manipur Police Department, saying them that he knew the State DGP.

He also said that Irfan has been missing since August 28 from Kwakta area and his whereabouts are untreaceable.

Police had raided Irfan's rented room at Mantripukhri and found that he had left the two minor kids in the room.

Speaking to the media persons JCILPS Co-Convenor BK Moirangcha said that it was very unfortunate that the innocent Meitei Pangals were duped by a non-local.

The people of the State need to be careful to avoid such incidents in future, he said and appealed to support the agitation launched by JCILPS for the implementation of ILP in the State.
