Dimapur, October 4, 2014: As part of its campaign to promote bamboo as the green material of the future, the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) has constructed a ‘Bamboo Bird Watch Tower’ at Pangti (Asha village), near Doyang in Wokha district.

According to a release, the tower was constructed with an objective to provide a safe vantage location for visitors who throng to watch the Amur Falcons which roost in the Doyang area during their winter migration. With such ventures, the release added, “the Agency hopes to lead the way with the broadening scope of bamboo as an affordable, eco-friendly and locally available building material.” The tower was designed by architect, Chenithung.

The tower was officially inaugurated by Amenba Yaden, MLA & Chairman, NBDA & NPCB on October 1. Khrienuo C. Metha, Team Leader, NBDA & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland along with other officials of NBDA, Pastor of Asha Baptist Church, representatives of Asha Village Council, women groups and social workers also attended the inaugural event.

The press release issued by NBDA Team Member Dr. Tolto Metha said that NBDA chairman exhorted on the significance of bamboo and nature, and encouraged the villagers of the area to be vigilant and contribute actively towards the preservation of eco-system.
