The day began with a cultural competition wherein dance troops from various districts of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills performed. The dance troops showcased their traditional dance forms.
Some of the dances that were performed were the Shad Pastieh from West Jaintia Hills, Shad Pliang from East Jaintia Hills, Shad Mastieh from West Khasi Hills, Wangala from West Garo Hills, Shad Kniahsngi from South West Khasi hills and Krutlynkha, a dance form originating from Ri Bhoi district.
Alongside the district level dance competition, the painting, photography and art installations on display also attracted a steady stream of admirers.
However, where the actual surge of the crowd was seen was the area where the bike stunting and Bboying competitions were taking place. The rains did not dampen the spirits of the young crowd as they frantically cheered and applauded the performers.
A creative writing competition that was open for school children also took place on Friday.
A comic book story-telling workshop was conducted by Orijit Sen, a noted name in the world of graphic novels and one of the first to bring out such kind of novels in India.
Sen spoke extensively on the various aspects of graphic novel making and asked the participants to share their ideas, upon which he further gave his creative suggestions. Another workshop was conducted on filmmaking which had renowned filmmaker Jayant Kripalini as the guest speaker. Kripalini shared his knowledge about the quintessential of filmmaking and also drew a few chuckles from the audience through his humorous way with words.
Films by upcoming directors were also screened for the audiences. Gun and God by director Sonia Nepram and Scattered Windows Connected Doors by directors Roohi Dixit and Ziba Bhgwagar were two films which had their official screening on Friday.
Other films that have been screened in the past two days were Stranger in My Land, Protagonist, The Tip, Kochi’s Own, A Sticker Story, Kaagitham, Jalli Kattu and Reality Church, to name a few.
The evening was exclusively set aside for back to back performances by music bands like We Are Giants from Nagaland, MAP, a Delhi-based band, 4th Element, a local band and a performance by Vishal Kothari, an artist from Mumbai.
