Udalguri, August 29, 2014: The Bodo People’s Committee for Peace Initiative (BPCPI), an organisation of Boro people here has demanded an early solution to the burning problem of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) and expressed grave concern over the fratricidal killings among the factions of the ultra outfit.

A two-page memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister of India through the Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district after a five-hour-long dharna staged centrally here at Udalguri town in front of the Bishnu Rabha Kristi Sangha premises, said that the BPCPI has been working hard to bring back peace and tranquility in the society by advocating for peace talks with the insurgent groups who were in the conflict with the government of India for various causes ranging from autonomous state to a separate nation and infringed rights.

The memorandum referred to the peace initiatives taken by the Ranjan Daimari faction of the NDFB with the Government of India and expressed grave concern over the birth of another faction as the Songbijit faction and termed it a group of ‘disgruntled and misguided youths, creating nuisance in the society’.

“Their ( NDFB-S) activity reflects least respect for human value and their presence is affecting the society adversely”, the memorandum observed. The BPCPI memorandum to the Prime Minister also referred to the brutal killing of Priya Basumatary, a class X student school girl on August 20 at Dwimuguri under Runikhata police station in Chirang district and termed it as ‘one of sordid acts of the group… ned to stop by any means.’

The memorandum also referred to the concern of the organisation over the killing of innocent Boro youths being killed in the name of counter-insurgency operation and in fake encounter and urged to stop such rampant killing of innocent lives. The memorandum also called for expediting peace talks with the NDFB. The BPCPI memorandum was signed by Dr Prosen Daimari and Prasanta Khakhlary, vice-president and general secretary respectively of the organisation.
