The function that began at 4 PM with minister Phungzathang Tonsing leading the lighting of inaugural lamps alongside other MLAs of the district.

The scheme which seeks to provide accounts to 7.5 crore identified households by August 2018, was implemented on the function's sideline as banks with branches in the district has organized camps where on the spot account opening facilities was available.

There has been no report, however, of how much account the district will add up at the inaugural target of 1 crore, as the process is still underway at the time of filing this report.

Touted to be implemented in two phases; from August 5 to August 14, 2015 and from August 15, 2015 to August 14, 2018, the PMJDY scheme made a major shift in its target.

The scheme would target households instead of villages as was the case earlier.

Under the mega financial inclusion plan bank accounts and RuPay debit cards with inbuilt insurance cover of Rs. 1 lakh would also be provided to crores of people with no access to formal banking facilities.
