Imphal, August 26, 2014: With necessary works in Imphal Tulihal Airport going on in full swing in tandem with the Central Government's acknowledgement as an international airport, the airport will start functioning as a full-fledged international airport from next year, said Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.

He was speaking as the Chief Guest of the training programme for this year's Haj pilgrims organized by Manipur State Haj Committee at Muslim Girls' Hostel, Hatta Minuthong here today.

Ibobi stated that necessary works in the airport had been already started following the clearance from the Central Government regarding upgradation of Imphal Tulihal Airport to an international airport and exuded confidence that if the ongoing works were completed accordingly then it will start functioning as an international airport from next year.

The CM maintained that the Government is planning to set up a passport office in Imphal considering inconveniences faced by people of the State while travelling up to Guwahati to obtain passport and added that the complex where the Old Assembly office stands has been chosen as the site for setting up of the passport office.

Haj pilgrims in the State will no more face problem in procuring passport once the office is set up, the Chief Minister assured, and added that the government is also planning to set up a Haj House at a suitable location.

Asserting that the State is blessed with natural scenic beauty and has enough potential to become a tourist destination, the Chief Minister stated that law & order situation in the State has been improved considerably for that.

As part of the programme, Chief Minister Ibobi launched HDFC Forex Plus Card through which the Haj pilgrims could transact money during their Haj trip.

Presided over Parliamentary Secretary (MOBC) Md Amin Shah who is also the chairman of Manipur State Haj Committee; today's function was also attended by MLA Fazlur Rahim, who is also the chairperson of Wakf Board Manipur and Parliamentary Secretary Meghachandra as Guests of Honor.
