Guwahati, September 27, 2014: The Assam Football Association (AFA) has agreed to work with All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) for the development of State football.

Addressing a press conference here today, ANFA president Ganesh Thapa, who also played for the Kolkata giant Mohun Bagan in 1984, said both the organisations have agreed for youth teams’ exchange scheme so that the grass-root level footballers of both the sides can develop their standard.

Thapa said that they will provide technical support to the AFA in order to help the youngsters in improving their basic skills.

AFA secretary Ankur Dutta said this effort will definitely help the young players of the State in gaining basic ideas which will make them technically sound players.

Hemendra Nath Brahma, the AFA president, Kamal Thapa, former sports minister of Nepal were also present on the occasion. Later they called on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and apprised him about their plan. However, some former footballers of the State believe that the tie-up will hardly pay any result as Nepal’s present FIFA ranking is 183 while India is placed at 158. If possible, tie-ups with countries like South Korea or Japan would have been more fruitful, opined the footballers who don’t want to disclose their names.
